Ocado praises itself for its technological edge over other supermarkets. However, we noticed that they’ve been getting some negative reviews. If you’ve been having issues with the Ocado app, then keep reading to hear some of our tried and tested troubleshooting ideas.

Ocado App not working – Here’s how to fix it

When an app like the Ocado app is not working, there are several potential reasons.

Here’s a list of common issues that might cause the app to malfunction:

  1. Internet Connectivity Issues: The app may not work properly if your device has a weak or unstable internet connection.
  2. App Bugs or Glitches: Software bugs or glitches in the app can cause it to crash or not function as intended.
  3. Outdated App Version: If you haven’t updated the app to the latest version, it might not work correctly due to compatibility issues with your device’s operating system.
  4. Server Problems: Sometimes the issue might be on Ocado’s end, with their servers being down or undergoing maintenance.
  5. Device Compatibility: The app may not be compatible with your device or its operating system version.
  6. Corrupted App Data: Corrupted data within the app can cause performance issues.
  7. Insufficient Storage Space: If your device doesn’t have enough storage space, the app might not function properly.
  8. Incorrect App Settings: Sometimes, incorrect settings within the app can prevent it from working correctly.
  9. Outdated Device Operating System: If your device’s operating system is outdated, it might not support the latest version of the app.
  10. Third-Party Conflicts: Other apps or software (like VPNs or security software) on your device might conflict with the Ocado app.

To resolve these issues, you might try checking your internet connection, updating the app, clearing cache and data, checking for any server-related announcements from Ocado, ensuring your device’s operating system is up-to-date, or even reinstalling the app.

If problems persist, contacting Ocado’s customer support can be a helpful next step.

Common cause: The Ocado App server

On the odd occasion issues with the Ocado app are actually issues with the Ocado server – you can find out if this is the case or not by checking on their website or social media platforms, which are made to keep in touch with their customers. We always recommend that you check on there first of all, as if there is some kind of issue or roadblock stopping you from accessing the app, they’ll mention it there.

But if you’ve already gone onto their Twitter page you still can’t find any mention of an issue at their end, you’re probably going to have to look at another culprit: your phone, app or internet connection.

To be fair, issues with supermarket orders are common amongst most major brands, with folks reports that the Sainsburys app is not working amongst others too. There are some common problems that the two share which I’ll go through below – you should follow the steps if your Ocado app is still not working.

Check for updates

The first thing that you have to check when the Ocado app isn’t working is that you’re completely up to date. If you are using an app that’s still running on an old version of the device, you’re likely to face some issues at some point until you go ahead and update the app.

For folks that are using an iPhone, you can easily check for updates by going to the App Store and finding your profile icon (which is usually at the top of the screen) and then scrolling down to see apps that still require an update. Simply click the ‘Update’ button on the Ocado app if you can.

Things may be a little different if you’re using an Android – if you are, then you’ll want to open the Google Play Store app and then go into Manage Apps & Devices. If you do have any apps with an update available, they’ll literally have a label next to them with ‘Update Available’.

For people that are using an iPhone, you can allow automatic downloads that will make sure that your phone updates automatically. You can easily go ahead and do this by simply going to your Settings, then into App Store and toggling the ‘App Updates’ to on.

After you’ve done this, it’s then a good idea for you to double check that you’re running on the latest update, as if you’re still on an older version, it may cause crashing issues with your phone. You can pretty easily check this by going into the Settings on your phone.

You can enable iOS updates to go through as well, and you can make sure that this is enabled by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Then, you’re going to want to check that Automatic Update shows as ‘On’ as shown below.

Check that you’re connected to WiFi or mobile data

The next thing that you’re going to have to check is that you are on the WiFi network where you are, or at least connected to your mobile data. The vast majority of apps out there will not work offline, so it’s a pretty common reason for people not being able to use them when they’ve not got an internet connection.

When you’re not connected to the internet, you should get a message within the app to let you know.

There are a couple of other common mistakes that many people make that you may come across, like turning off their mobile data or even in some cases, putting your phone into airplane mode. If you want to make sure that this hasn’t happened on your phone then go into your Settings and then into your Mobile Data.

iPhone users can easily check the Wifi on their phone by simply swiping up and checking your connections – if you are connected to the Wifi, then it’ll be highlighted in blue..

To check the WiFi on an iPhone, swipe up and make sure the WiFi is turned on (it will be highlighted blue), alternatively, go to your phone’s Settings > WiFi, and make sure this is turned on. You’ll want to try and connect to the best quality Wi-Fi connection that you can.

Delete and re-install the Ocado app

So, you’ve checked that your device is all up-to-date and the servers that you’re trying to connect to aren’t down. What you should do after that is uninstall the Ocado app, then afterwards go ahead and re-install the app afterwards. The truth is that your apps may need a refresh.

To go a step further than this, you’re going to want to actually delete the app itself and re-install it after – you can do this by holding down on the app in question – you can then hit delete app. For Android users, you still need to tap and hold down the app, but you’ll feel a vibration when it’s confirmed as selected, and then you’ll need to drag the app to where it says ‘Uninstall’.

Obviously. after you’ve done this you can then re-install the app by searching for it on the App Store or Google Play Store.

Conclusion

To round up, there aren’t often problems with the Ocado app, but if you are facing issues, there’s usually an easy fix and it’s likely to be one of the issues that we’ve covered in this article.

Hopefully, this helped you with your issues so that you can get back to ordering your favourite groceries.
