Discord is a free platform for messaging and voice-calling. You can create group chats, also known as servers, and invite other users to join. Or, you can join existing servers through custom invite links. Discord servers can be of any size, ranging from 1 member to over 10,000 members.
In larger Discord servers, people often utilise Discord bots to help manage the server. Discord bots can help automate messages and verify new members. Bots can also help initiate giveaways.
Giveaways are events that allow users to obtain prizes for entering. Winners are chosen at random. Discord giveaways can award users things like Nitro subscriptions. Holding giveaways on Discord can help servers advertise themselves and gain them new members.
There are Discord bots that specialise in holding giveaways. There are a few giveaway bots available, but we’ll mainly focus on one of them.
How to use Giveaway bot on Discord
There are three steps to take if you want to setup Giveaway Bot on your Discord server quickly. You need to create a channel, install Giveaway bot from their website and then finally add Giveaway bot to your server using the creation setup wizard.
All of this is fairly straightforward. Though if you’re not entirely sure what to do, here’s how you can setup Giveaway bot.
Step 1: Create a text channel
Firstly, before you can use a giveaway bot, you must create a text channel for the giveaway. If you don’t already have a text channel dedicated to the giveaway, you can create one by clicking the plus icon beside ‘text channel’.
The plus icon should be located on the left side tab. After clicking the plus icon, a pop up will appear. Here, you can name the text channel ‘giveaway’.
You can also choose to limit access to the channel by clicking the switch for ‘private channel’. This will make it so that only selected members or members with certain roles can enter the channel. Once you’re done, click ‘create channel’.
Step #2: Head to GiveawayBot.Party
Next, navigate to the giveaway bot website: giveawaybot.party.
Scroll down until you find the option for ‘add to Discord’. Click on the option, and log into Discord when prompted. A notice will then appear asking you to choose a server for the giveaway bot. Click on the drop-down menu and select the relevant server. Then, click ‘continue’.
You now be asked to give the bot certain permissions. Scroll down to the bottom, and click the ‘authorise’ option to proceed. The giveaway bot should now be added to your Discord server.
Step 3: Create your giveaway
Now that the giveaway bot has been added, you must create the giveaway. Open the Discord app and navigate to your giveaway text channel. Go to the message box, and type !gcreate. This will start the giveaway creation process.
First, you’ll be asked to choose a text channel to hold the giveaway in. Type out the name of your giveaway channel and send it. E.g. #giveaway. Be aware that your answers are time-sensitive. If you take longer than 2 minutes to answer, the giveaway creation will be cancelled and you’ll have to start over.
After you’ve sent the channel name, the bot will ask you to pick a duration for the giveaway. E.g. type out ‘1d’ for one day. Then, you must pick the amount of winners. You can choose a number between 1 and 20.
Finally, you’ll be asked to type out the giveaway prize. E.g. Nitro. The giveaway has now been created. You can prematurely close the giveaway by typing !gend in the text channel. The winner will be randomly chosen.
