How To Add Someone On WhatsApp: A Step-By-Step Guide

Trying to add someone on WhatsApp should be simple, but some people get a little lost when adding others on the platform.

However, it’s actually pretty easy to add new people on WhatsApp. Here’s everything you need to know about adding your friends within the app so you can start chatting immediately.

Inviting a Contact to Join WhatsApp

There are various different ways that you can add another person on WhatsApp, and they vary in their convenience.

If you want to add someone to a WhatsApp group, it’s a good idea to add them as a contact first. Here’s how to do that.

Sending an Invite

The first step to adding a contact on WhatsApp is sending out an invite. This can be done through the app itself or via text message from any other phone number if your contact isn’t already using WhatsApp.

To send the invitation through the app, open up your list of contacts and tap “Invite Contacts” at the bottom of their profile page.

From there, select which contacts you would like to add and press “Send Invites” when prompted. You can also copy/paste a link into any other communication platform like email or SMS (text messages).

Sharing Your Contact Information

Once your contact receives your invitation they will need some additional information before they can accept it – namely yours!

You’ll need to provide either:

  • Your full name as it appears in their address book.
  • Or your international phone number including country code.

Before proceeding make sure that these details match exactly what’s stored on their device otherwise they won’t be able to find you once invited.

Inviting someone onto WhatsApp doesn’t have too many complexities involved, and you can send out invites through either text message or directly from within the app.

Adding Contacts from Your Phonebook

Adding contacts from your phonebook is a great way to quickly and easily connect with your friends, family, and colleagues.

There are several ways you can do this depending on the type of device you have and the operating system it is running.

If you’re using a smartphone, adding contacts from your phone book is simple.

First open the Contacts app which will list all the contacts stored in its memory. Then tap on “Add contact” at the top right-hand corner of the screen.

This will bring up a form where you can enter details such as name, email address and mobile number. Once done hit save button at bottom right-hand corner of page to add contact.

If you use an iPhone or other iOS device then follow these steps;

  • Open Phone app.
  • Tap Contacts option.
  • Select + icon located at top right-hand corner of display.
  • Now fill out required fields like Name, Email Address & Mobile Number.
  • Hit the Done button, located at upper-right side when finished entering data.

Once you’ve done this, your contact should now be added to your device’s address book.

Scanning QR Codes on WhatsApp

QR codes can be used for many things, from checking into a store to verifying your identity. Now, users can also use them to quickly join WhatsApp group chats.

The process is simple and straightforward: all you need is the QR code itself and your phone’s camera.

First, open up the WhatsApp app on your phone and select the “Chats” tab at the bottom of the screen.

From there, tap on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of your display to access Settings > Group Invites > Scan QR Code.

You will now see an overlay appear overtop of whatever view your camera has currently captured; point it towards whichever QR code you wish to scan and if successful, you should receive a notification informing you that you have been added to a new chat group.
