Apple TV Remote app not working? – What to do

There are various reasons that could be preventing Apple TV Remote from working as it should be. There are some common causes that you’ll come across more frequently than others.

If you want to get your Apple TV Remote working again, then run through the below; then, you can return to controlling your devices from the comfort of your app

1: Check for Connection Issues

Apple TV Remote may not be working because your devices aren’t all connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is a requirement for the app to work, and it’s one of the main reasons why you may find your Apple remote not working.

Ensure that all relevant devices are connected to the same network, which includes your Apple TV Remote and the device you’re using it with.

For iPhone

Go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Check that it’s connected to the right network.

2: Restart your Wi-Fi Router

If Apple Remote is still not working, try restarting your router by turning it off and on again. Then, try using Apple Remote once more.

Routers can have issues functioning if too many devices connect to it at once. By restarting your router, you’ll be able to ensure that some devices will be disconnected – then, your Apple TV Remote can take priority.

3: Remember to Enable Home Sharing

Apple Remote requires all related devices to have Home Sharing enabled to work properly. Check that Home Sharing is set up and turned on for all relevant devices.

For iPhone:

Open your Apple Remote app. If Home Sharing is not set up, it should showcase an option called ‘Use Home Sharing’. Press on it to initiate the set up process, and sign in with your Apple ID.

4: Restart your Devices

There’s a chance that the issue is not with your Apple TV remote app – instead, it may be with the devices that you’re using it on.

This can vary depending on what iOS device you use it with, but most typically, you’ll find this issue on iPhone.

For iPhone:

All you need to do on an iPhone is turn it off – you can do this by simply holding down the power button on the side of the phone. Then, when the slider appears at the top, swipe it to the right.

There’s also a chance that your Apple TV remote isn’t working because it hasn’t been updated in a while. The longer you leave it without an update, the more likely it is to have issues.

You can see all of the apps you’ve downloaded within your account by going into Settings. Scroll down to the app to see whether you’ve got an update available and ready to install.

7: Close and then Reopen App

There could be an issue with the app itself, so try closing and reopening it.

Double-press the home button to show your tabs, and swipe up on the Apple Remote tab to close it.
