How to make a post on the LinkedIn App

LinkedIn is a professional networking platform that allows people to exchange information on jobs, gives access to career advice as well as connects you with people that have a similar background in your field of expertise.

It has options to learn new skills online through their skill-building courses as well as helping you tap into a network of professionals that can help you advance your career.

With LinkedIn stories becoming increasingly popular too, it’s definitely a platform worth checking out. So how can you make a post on LinkedIn for others to engage with?

How to make a post on the LinkedIn App

If you want to make a post within the LinkedIn app, all you need to do is;

  1. Go to the ‘Post’ option.
  2. Type the content you want to post about.
  3. Select who you want to share this post within the options available.
  4. Choose ‘Post’ to make your content live.

There’s also quite a lot of different customisation options when it comes to each post within LinkedIn too.

What options can you use to post to LinkedIn? Well, actually there are quite a few different options you can choose from when making a post on Linkedin. This includes;

  • Start a post
  • Camera icon
  • Video icon
  • Document
  • Write article

As you can see, it’s actually fairly easy to make a simple post on LinkedIn if you’re just getting started. However, there are different types of posts you can choose from too.

How do I create an update post on LinkedIn?

If you do decide to post content on the LinkedIn app, you can also choose to upload an update post instead of a standard post.

  1. Go to the ‘Home Tab.’
  2. Click on the ‘Share’ button option.
  3. If you choose to ‘Share’ you can now create an update with text, links and mentions of other LinkedIn members.
  4. You can also add a photo if you choose to with the ‘Photo’ button at the top of the screen.

Making an update post is a good idea if you want to share with friends and acquaintances on the platform.

How do I post to a LinkedIn story?

Stories for LinkedIn can only be created on iOS and Android devices, it is not a feature available to the web version for Windows and Mac.

To create a story for LinkedIn and post it to your profile this is how:

  1. Open the LinkedIn app.
  2. In the ‘Stories’ section, go to ‘Your Story.’
  3. You can also go to ‘Post’ at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Then tap ‘Share a Story.’

There are other options at the bottom of the screen that allows you to put in a picture from your gallery if you already have something you want to use.

You can choose the ‘Shutter’ option to take a photo using the app if your camera permissions are granted for LinkedIn. If you hold the ‘Shutter’ button you can also take a video to upload.

At the top of the screen, you can add options such as text, or a sticker. If you go to the ‘T’, you can enter text and then adjust to what colour you want the text to be when you post.

If you browse through the sticker icons there is a library of graphics that are usable for LinkedIn.

If you choose to ass a ticker or some text you can move the image around the screen to place it where you want it to be.

It is possible to resize or angle the icon where needed. After you are happy with what you have created tap on ‘Share Story.’ This will make the post live.

How do I share a LinkedIn Publisher Post?

Although the mobile app does not allow for this option yet you can still post on LinkedIn publisher by sharing your existing LinkedIn Publisher Posts with your connections.

  1. Go to the ‘Me’ tab.
  2. Swipe left on your screen.
  3. Select the post that you want to share.
  4. On Android you can get your posts by selecting your profile from the ‘Me’ tab.
  5. Open the post you want to display and click on the share icon in the top right corner,
  6. This will then open a new screen.
  7. You will have the option to ‘Share or Message.’

If you want to private message your post, click on the ‘Message’ icon. Type the name of the person you want to share it with and then send it.

If you want to share the post with your network connections as a whole, write a message to attach to your post and then select ‘send.’

LinkedIn is a type of social media, but it is far-flung from the social media platforms we use daily for socialising with others.

It does have some similarities to social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, like the ability to add content for others to interact with and it allows you to post news and updates on your life or any subject you may want to discuss.

Conclusion

In conclusion, LinkedIn is a great platform for professionals, it is easy to use and encompasses many features that are helpful in advancing your career.

So if you haven’t used it yet, I would recommend it because it opens up a network of people across the world that can help you. You can also create LinkedIn articles too if you want to get your work in front of potential employers.

It is a pretty unique way for professionals to interact, to show your C.V. and advertise or apply to potential jobs you may not have heard about otherwise.

Hopefully, now you have learned the basics from this article and you can make your first post for your connections to engage with.
