Like all popular social media websites, Twitters allows its users to upload a picture that is permanently attached to their profile.
This is meant to be used as a way for other users who know you to verify that they’ve got the right account before following, however there is no rules in place that say your profile picture has to actually be of you.
As time goes on, users may want to change their profile picture to something else or delete it altogether – going completely anonymous in the process.
In this article, we are going to look at how you can go about deleting and/or changing your your Twitter profile picture across all devices.
Deleting your Twitter profile picture – step by step
Deleting or changing your Twitter profile picture is a very simple process, regardless of whether you are doing it via the mobile phone app or via a web browser.
You don’t need to be a tech wizard to be able to complete the process, and your change will take effect immediately.
To delete/change your Twitter profile picture via a web browser, please follow these steps:
- Log on to your Twitter account.
- Select your profile icon on the left hand side of the Twitter screen. It is towards the bottom of the menu bar below the direct messaging icon.
- Select the ‘edit profile’ button.
- Hover over your profile picture and select ‘add photo’.
- Select a photo from your device to replace your current profile picture. If you are looking to go anonymous then you can save a blank screen as a picture and upload it as your Twitter profile picture.
To delete/change your Twitter profile picture via the mobile phone app, please follow these steps:
- Log on to your Twitter account.
- Select your profile icon. On the app, this is located on the top left hand side of the screen.
- From the drop down menu, select ‘profile’.
- Select ‘edit profile’ and then click on your existing picture.
- You will then be prompted to either replace your existing picture with a new photo from your device or a non-fungible token (NFT).
- Again, for anonymity you can choose to replace your current profile picture with a blank image.
Explaining the NFT option for Twitter profile pictures
As mentioned above, Twitter users are now able to change their profile picture to a picture of an NFT that they won.
NFT’s are essentially exclusive pieces of digital art that can be bought, sold and traded on Blockchain, much in the same way cryptocurrency is.
It has boomed over the past 12 months, with some NFT’s being sold for millions of pounds.
Using an owned NFT as your profile picture is basically just a way of putting it in the shop window for any interested buyers.
Given the amount of active users on Twitter, it is a handy advertising tool and a potentially good way to ramp up the price.
You can use Twitter’s search function to search specific tweets from a user to see a few examples of an NFT profile photo.
Changing your Twitter header photo
Profile pictures aren’t the only images that are attached to a user’s Twitter profile – there are also header images.
Header photos (large, wide images that sit on the top of your profile) also make up a typical Twitter profile, however, unlike profile pictures, these aren’t mandatory.
To add a header photo to your Twitter account while using the platform via a web browser, please follow these steps:
- Log on to your Twitter account.
- Select the profile icon on the left hand menu bar (explained in more detail above.)
- Select the ‘edit profile’ button.
- On the blank screen where your header photo should be, select the ‘add photo’ button and then select an image from your device.
- Resize the image using the in-app cropping tool to ensure it fits in the header dimensions.
If you are looking to change your existing header photo then the process is the exact same as the above.
However, if you’re looking to just remove your header photo and leave that area of your profile blank then follow all steps up to and including step number three and then hit the ‘x’ button on your existing header photo.
To add a header photo to your Twitter account while using the platform via the mobile phone app, please follow these steps:
- Log on to your Twitter account.
- Select the profile icon on the top left hand side of the app.
- From the drop down menu, select ‘profile’.
- Select ‘edit profile’ and then follow the same steps outlined on steps 4 and 5 above.
In order to delete your header photo entirely while on the app, you need to select your current header photo while in the ‘edit profile’ section and select the trash icon when you are given the choice to select a new image.
Conclusion
To conclude, it is actually impossible to completely remove your Twitter profile picture without selecting a replacement. That means that you can’t go back to the Twitter default avatar quickly.
However, it is easy enough to simply change your picture to a blank screen if you are wanting to remove your image and replace it with nothing. You can also choose a different picture to upload to your Twitter account.
We hope that the steps provided above will help you to change both your profile and header photos when the time comes for a refresh of your profile.
