eToro not working? Here’s what you should do

There’s a good reason why eToro is one of the most popular financial apps on the market. Even though there are a lot of good things about the trading platform, there may be times where you find that the eToro app is not working as it should.

So, if your eToro is down or not working, what can you do to get it up and running properly? Well, the good news is that there are a couple of different ways you can fix eToro; but first, we need to work out what the problem is.

eToro not working – The fix

If you eToro app is not working, then you should head over to their status page to check whether there’s any problems with the app at the time you’re using it.

Like any app, eToro can sometimes go through problems that mean that the app is down, or it may stop users from logging into the portal. All of this can be diagnosed using the eToro status page, where the team will upload whether they’re currently facing any issues with the app itself.

But the majority of the time the eToro app is up and running as it should be, and if you’ve checked that there’s no functional issues with the app itself, then you’ve probably got issues in another area. We’re going to run through the most common of them and what you can do to resolve the issue.

Connection problems

The most likely thing that will stop eToro working is if you’ve got connection issues on your phone. eToro relies on an internet connection to function, as you need access to data to keep all of the prices and figures within the app correct.

If you don’t have a solid internet connection, you won’t even be able to log into your eToro app. This means that you won’t be able to log into your eToro account and make trades, or even view your balance.

Having a weak internet connection is a common problem that can stop you from accessing an app. Obviously, the first thing you’ll want to do is check you’re not in flight mode, and that you’re either connected to a Wi-Fi network or have data that you can use. If this is all good, then you can try switching into and out of flight mode very quickly, or even just turning your phone off and on again quickly too.

Another possible issue is that you may be having some trouble with your Wi-Fi, so try connecting to the eToro app with your mobile data instead.

This is a pretty common problem that can occur when your Wi-Fi is caching an old address that’s stopping you from connecting to the internet – it should resolve in a few hours, but in the meantime, it’s a better idea to use mobile data.

Offload the app

The term “offloading seems to really confuse some people, but the reality is that it’s actually pretty simple.

Whilst you’re not actually deleting your app completely when you do this, you will get rid of all the saved program data that you’ve accumulated when using the app, including all of the cached storage that can build up with certain apps.

However, it does still hold all of your login information so that when you restore the app to your device, it should work the same as before.

This is essentially putting them into a standby mode, and it could work for getting your eToro app working again if the issue lies with your current install. There’s not currently an Android equivalent for this, though there should be in the near future – if you’re on Android, you’ll probably want to get rid of the app completely.

Reinstall the app

Whilst simply offloading the app should do the trick, if you’ve tried the above with no success, then the last resort is to just uninstall the app from your device and then reinstall it again. This is a fairly simple resolution to the problem, but in the majority of cases, it should actually be enough to get eToro working again.

Often with eToro and other apps the reason they crash is down to the data they have stored – deleting the app will clear all of the data and any cached information your app has saved.

Doing this will also automatically update the app for you as well, which is important if you want to make sure you’ve got the current version.

Check the market

If you can open up your account but can’t make use of eToro’s services, then there’s a chance they may have stopped you making trading actions. This is common amongst all trading apps, and is usually temporary until things have settled down somewhat.

The reason? Well, this could be down to anything from irregular trading actions at mass scale to a full blown market crash that’s forced eToro to stop trading.

Conclusion

In conclusion, most people don’t typically have a ton of problems with the eToro app, as it tends to be pretty good in that regard. It’s reliable, has a good range of stocks and other assets, offers copy trading services, and importantly they also have FCFS protection, which means that your funds are fully covered up to a limit of £85k.

Even though, you can still have technical issues with it, and most of the time that can be resolved by sorting out your internet connection and making sure the app is installed properly. Once this is done, you can get back to investing in your favourite stocks again!
