How do I improve my fibre optic internet

Whether you have internet in your home, or use it for work at an office, it’s important you have a good full fibre broadband provider. With most people using the internet daily, we rely on it heavily. For a lot of people, they will use their internet for work calls, whilst others may use it for online gaming or to browse the internet on their tablets – it has so many uses and the last thing you want is for it to be slow.

So how can you improve your fibre optic internet? There are a number of things you can do. You can relocate your router, to make sure it’s in a good space, you can opt for wires instead of using the wi-fi, when applicable and you can make sure everything is up-to-date – sometimes people forget to update their devices.

Keep on reading to learn more about how I improve my fibre optic internet.

Relocate your wifi box

Sometimes, slow speeds can come down to the fact that your wifi box isn’t in the best location. If you are working at one end of your property and the box is at the other, then the signal may not be strong enough to offer you fast speeds. You may need to think about moving your wifi box to a more central location or if this is not possible, using a range booster may work. Range boosters are very affordable and can make a big difference to your speeds.

Updated your settings

When you set up your wi-fi box, it defaults to a standard setting which is best for the average person but not necessarily everyone. If you are having speed issues, it may be worth looking over your settings and seeing if you can tweak them at all. Along with making changes, see if there are any updates that you can run. A lot of the time these are done for you but there may be occasions where you need to do them yourself.

Use wires when possible

To get the fastest speeds for your box, wires are the best way to go. The reason for this is that the internet is then travelling directly into the device instead of over the wifi, where there can be some interference. If you can, try to use wires for devices which are close to the box and then wifi for devices which are further out.

The above are a few tips which we hope can improve the speeds on your fibre optic internet. It can be worth trying them all, as sometimes what works for one person, doesn’t always work for another. If you are still having issues, consider reaching out to your provider as they will be able to assist.
