Why is my email not syncing on my Samsung?

Email apps are usually reliable, and when you set up auto sync properly, you should find that it connects with your email servers without much issue.

However, some Samsung users find that the email apps they use runs into issues, and it fails to both send and receive e-mails.

This issue can usually be traced back to a few different potential causes – we’re going to run through why this may be happening, and what you can do to resolve it too.

Ensure Automatic Email Sync Is Enabled

Before doing anything else, you need to make sure that your email is set up to automatically sync with the server.

Most email clients have automatic synchronisation, meaning your emails don’t get delayed. However, when you disable sync on your email, you’ll obviously stop getting emails.

So, we need to check that auto sync is enabled. If you’re using the Samsung email app, to make sure auto sync is enabled you can;

  1. Click into your Settings.
  2. Select Cloud and Accounts.
  3. Then, select Accounts again.
  4. Tap the Three Dots to bring up the Settings menu.

Here, you should see an option to auto sync data – make sure this is enabled.

The other email app that many Samsung users have on their device is Gmail. You can also do this with the Gmail app by;

  1. First, go into your Settings app.
  2. Then, select Users and Accounts.
  3. Finally, turn on Automatically Sync Data.

There’s a similar process that you can use for most email apps if you need to adapt. However, before getting started it’s a good idea to ensure that the auto sync option is enabled on your device.

Remove and Re-Add the Email Account to Your App

If a message on your phone is not syncing to your email server, then it’s possible the account has had an issue when it comes to configuration.

In this situation, it’s a good idea to remove your email account from the app. Once you’ve done this, you can go ahead and add the email back to the app – simple.

You can usually do this within the Settings of your app, whether that’s the Samsung email app, the Gmail app or something else.

Once you’ve re-added your email account to the app, hopefully this should resolve your auto sync issue.

Clear Your Android Device’s Storage

When you download emails onto your Android phone, you take up space in your Samsung device’s internal storage.

So if you’re having a problem downloading emails, it may have nothing to do with your sync settings – instead, it could be a lack of space on your device.

With not enough space on your device, you won’t be able to download any new emails – even if you enable auto sync.

The good news is that you can easily fix that problem by deleting your emails and any unnecessary files from your mobile.

So, check whether there’s enough space on your Samsung phone by going to Settings and then Device Maintenance, and then finally click into Storage.

Once done, use the File manager app (or the MyFiles app on Samsung) to get rid of any data that you no longer need.

Check for internet connectivity

You need a working internet connection (either wirelessly or via mobile data) to sync to your Samsung device.

If you don’t have an internet connection, you won’t be able to sync Gmail or any other email account with the email service or cloud server.

Again, you can check this on a Samsung Galaxy phone by simply going into your Settings.

Ensure You Enter the Correct Password in Your Email App

Another common cause of auto sync not working as it should is entering the wrong password in your account’s email settings.

If you don’t enter the correct password, your mobile device cannot sync with the email, as they are not authorized to do so.

You can resolve this by ensuring that you’ve put the right password in. If you can’t remember your current one, you can reset the password to get a new one for your account.

Clear the Cache for Your Email App

The email app stores data on its device like any other application, but sometimes these cache files can create an issue.

If you’ve got an auto sync problem on your Android device, clearing the cache of your applications can be worthwhile.

You can do this by going to;

  1. First, Settings.
  2. Then, select Apps.
  3. Next, click Storage.
  4. Finally, tap Clear Cache.

This will clear the cached data that your apps have saved onto your device, and resolve any automatic sync issues you’re having too.

Disable power saving mode

Power saving mode is great for getting more battery life out of your Android device, but it can interfere with your auto sync features.

Because of this, it’s a good idea disable battery saving mode from within the Settings on your Samsung mobile.

Though this is possible on a Samsung Galaxy device, this can also cause conflicts on other Android devices too.

Update Your Email App

Keep your apps updated is a necessity if you want optimal performance at all times, and this includes your email apps too.

To do this, all you need to do is click into the Play Store and see which apps need updating. If your email apps needs to be updated, this may be the reason why it’s not syncing properly.

After you’ve done this, you can go ahead and try to send emails to another user. If you can do this without any problem, the issue should be fixed.

Conclusion

If you’ve tried all of the above to no avail, then there’s a chance that there’s a bug with the Samsung email app that you’re using. This will usually be resolved within a day or two, so you can usually wait until it’s back up.

But making sure you have a stable internet connection, the right person and ensuring your sync settings have auto sync enabled will usually be enough to get things working.
