How to set custom status on Discord – Full Guide

Discord is known as one of the largest messaging apps, and one of the best things about it is its level of customization. This includes creating your own custom Discord statuses.

Discord statuses allow you to set a status to your profile, which can tell other users what you’re currently up to. Discord has a set of default statuses to choose from, as well as an option to create a custom status. Discord has four default statuses.

How to set custom status on Discord

Even if you set a custom status, you will always have a default status set on your profile. The four default statuses are Online, Idle, Do Not Disturb, and Invisible.

Online means that you’re active on Discord. Idle means that you’re on Discord but not open to interaction. Do Not Disturb means that you won’t receive any notifications. Invisible means that you won’t appear as online even if you’re on Discord.

Creating a custom status will allow you to fully personalise your status. There is a character limit of 128, so keep that in mind when creating custom statuses.

You can also only create one custom status at a time. Your Discord status should be visible underneath your profile/username in the user list. This is usually located on the right side of the screen.

Custom Status Message – For PC

On PC, launch the Discord app. Then, click on your profile picture in the bottom left. This should cause a list of status options to appear. There should four default status options, and an option to set a custom status. Click ‘set a custom status’.

A new window should pop up. Here, you can type in your custom status, and choose when the status will disappear. After the allocated amount of time, the custom status will no longer be visible. You can also prevent the custom status from disappearing by selecting ‘don’t clear’.

You can add an emoji to your custom status by clicking the emoji icon. You can also change your default status by clicking the drop-down menu underneath ‘status’. Choosing a default status will not get rid of your custom status. Once you’re finished, click ‘save’ to apply the changes.

If you wish to change your custom status, you must first remove the existing one. To remove a custom status, click on your profile picture in the bottom left.

Then, click the ‘x’ next to your custom status to clear it. After you’ve cleared the custom status, the option to set a custom status should be available again.

You can also choose to add a custom note or message on your profile by clicking your username in the right side tab. Underneath the section for ‘note’, type in your custom message.

You can also remove a custom message by simply deleting it. When you’re done, click on another part of the screen to close the window. It’s fairly straightforward to set a custom status message on desktop, and it’s almost as simple on mobile too.

For iOS

First, open the Discord app. Press on the three lines in the top left corner. Then, click on your profile picture in the bottom right. This will open your user settings. Press the ‘set status’ option.

A list of status options should appear. You can also set a default status by pressing one of the four statuses. This will not affect your custom status. To set a custom status, press ‘set a custom status’.

Type in your custom status, and choose an option for when it should be cleared. You can also choose to not clear it by pressing ‘don’t clear’. When you’re finished, press ‘save’ to apply the changes.

To delete a custom status, press ‘set status’. Press the ‘x’ next to your custom status. The custom status should now be deleted. You can add another custom status if you so choose, by pressing ‘set a custom status’ once more.

You can also add a custom message to your account by pressing your profile picture in the user list. To access the user list, open up one of your servers.

Then, press the person icon in the top right. After pressing your profile, scroll down to the bottom. There should be a section labelled ‘note’.

Type in your custom message. You can also remove a custom message by deleting it with the keyboard. Then, swipe down to close the window.

For Android

Open the Discord app, and press the three lines in the top left. Then, press your profile picture in the bottom right corner. This will take you to your user settings. Select ‘set status’.

You can choose to set a default status by pressing one of the first four options. This won’t override your custom status. To set a custom status, press ‘set a custom status’.

Type out your custom status in the input box, and close your keyboard. Then, select an option for when the status should be cleared.

If you don’t want the status to automatically clear itself, press ‘don’t clear’. When you’re finished, press the save icon in the lower right to apply the changes.

If you wish to manually remove your custom status, press ‘set status’. Press the ‘x’ beside your custom status to delete it. Then, you can choose to set another custom status by pressing ‘set a custom status’.

You can also set a custom message by pressing your username in the user list. You can access the user list by opening one of your servers, and pressing the person icon in the top right. After you’ve pressed your username, scroll down until your see the ‘note’ section.

Type in your custom message in the input box. You can also remove a custom message by deleting the words. When you’re done, swipe down to close the window.

How to set a Discord bio

Discord also allows you to set a bio for your profile. Discord has an in-built ‘about me’ section, which can be edited. Whilst it’s not the same as setting a custom playing status, it is another way to add more info to your Discord account.

To access the ‘about me’ section, open Discord and then click into your user settings. Next, click the ‘user profile’ tab. Scroll until you see the ‘about me’ section.

Type in your bio and save the changes in your Discord app when you’re done.
