How to pin messages in Discord – Quick Guide

Discord has a feature that allows you to pin messages in a chat. Once a message has been pinned, it can be viewed along with all other pinned messages.

Before attempting to pin any Discord messages, you should be aware that you can only pin messages if you have the ‘manage messages’ permission enabled for you. If you have admin rights in the server, you should automatically have access to the ‘manage messages’ permission.

How to pin messages in Discord

You can usually pin messages quite easily in Discord by clicking the three dots icon in the upper right corner of your display

Pinning a message makes the message easy to view at any time. It can be useful for when certain messages or information need to be quickly found or kept in mind. It saves you the trouble of having to scroll in order to find certain messages.

Pinned messages will stay pinned unless they’re manually unpinned by a user. There is a limit of 50 pins per channel/chat, so make sure to pin messages wisely. It’s a good idea to remove pinned messages when you no longer need them.

You can pin messages in Discord on both Desktop and Mobile platforms. We’ll begin by explaining how you can pin Discord messages on Desktop.

On the Desktop app

It is very easy and simple to pin a message in Discord. Open up the Discord client, and locate the message you wish to pin. Then, hover over the message. A set of icons should appear in the top right of the message. Click on the three dots to access the message options.

A set of options will appear. Click on the ‘pin message’ option to pin the Discord message. A pop up will appear asking you to confirm whether you really want to pin the message. Select ‘oh yeah. pin it’ to pin the message.

Alternatively, you can right-click on a message and select ‘pin message’ to pin it.

On Mobile

Open the Discord app, and locate the message you want to pin. Press and hold on the message to access the message options. Select the ‘pin’ option to pin the message.

A pop up will appear asking you to confirm the pinning. Press the ‘pin’ option to pin the message.

How to view pinned messages in Discord

We’ll now go through how you can view pinned messages in Discord.

On Desktop

You can easily access pinned messages by opening the Discord app, and selecting the pin icon in the upper right. A tab should appear showcasing all the pinned messages in the channel.

In this tab, you can choose to unpin messages by hovering over a pinned message, and clicking the ‘x’ icon. A pop up will appear asking you to confirm the removal. Select ‘remove it, please!’ to unpin the message.

You can skip the confirmation step by pressing and holding the Shift-key whilst clicking the ‘x’. This method is especially useful for quickly unpinning multiple messages.

You can also jump to the pinned message’s position in chat by selecting the ‘jump’ option.

On Mobile

Go on the Discord app, and press the person icon in the top right to access the right side tab. You can also access this tab by swiping left. Near the top of the tab, there should be a row of options. Press the ‘pin’ option to view all pinned messages in the channel.

Here, you can choose to unpin a message by long-pressing it, and selecting ‘unpin’.

Or, you can jump to the pinned message’s position in chat by pressing on the message.
