How to add multiple destinations in Google maps app – We have the answer

Google Maps is quite possibly the most used map service in the world, and it can help you take the most efficient route from one place to another.

Whether you’re looking to drive to work or you’re planning a backpacking tour of Europe, Google Maps has you covered. Though Google Maps can stop working, it’s the best map app out there.

But what if you want to go to multiple destinations in one long trip? For example, you’re out shopping for a new table, and you want to go to a few different stores to browse all the options that are available to you.

Well, thankfully Google Maps has a way to help by giving us the ability to add multiple stops with their route planning tool. We’re here to show exactly how to do it.

How to add multiple destinations in Google maps app – The solution

Thankfully adding multiple destinations into Google Maps is a fairly simple process.

Here we’ll outline how to do it and a few extra nuances that are available to you such as changing the order of your stops and if you need to arrive at a certain time so you know when to head out.

First things first, make sure you have the google maps app installed. If you don’t have the app you can get it for free from the app store. Make sure you allow the location discovery or the app won’t work.

It’s very easy to find the shortest route from point A to point B with Google Maps. Here’s how you can go from A to B to C, and even onto Point D if you so wish.

Adding multiple destinations

So, time to open Google Maps and plan your route. The good thing is that Google Maps will allow you to add up to nine stops to your journey, meaning you can add many different locations on route to your destination.

We’ll outline it here in a step by step process so you can follow along as you’re planning your route.

Here’s are the steps:

  • Open the app
  • Search for you destination, either with the search bar or find the location on the map to select.
  • Select “Directions.” This is all you need to do if you only want to go to one destination, just hit start and get going.
  • To add a second destination, select the three dots in the top right corner.
  • Select “Add stop.” Now a second stop has appeared in your destination field.
  • Select the destination marked “b.” Now you can search for destination or select the search on map too add from the map.
  • Repeat for up to 10 total destinations
  • Done.

You’ll get your estimated total trip time when you enter all of the different stops, and you’ll be able to choose either the fastest route or the one that is most fuel efficient. You can rearrange stops easily if you change your plans later down the line too.

Changing the order of stops

This is a really simple process once you have multiple destinations selected. While looking at the various destinations you’ll notice an icon that looks like three lines next to each destination. Simple hold down on the icon next to the destination you’d like to move. You can now drag that destination and place it in the order you’d like it to be in.

This is pretty straight forward thankfully but isn’t completely intuitive if you haven’t used the app before or just weren’t aware it was possible. Really think they could add a more obvious “These can be dragged by the way…” and prevent people needing to restart the process from scratch…

Change depart and arrival time

This is thankfully, along with most of the functions of the app, fairly simple. I have to say the app does a very good job of making things very simple for something which could easily be made annoying and confusing.

When it comes to changing your depart time or arrival time it’s done mainly if there is a certain time period in which you need to arrive at an event or leave a certain area. Think getting to the cinema on time or checking out of a hotel.

Here’s the steps:

  • Open the app
  • Search for you destination, either with the search bar or find the location on the map to select.
  • Select “Directions.”
  • Once at this stage select the three dots in the top right corner of the app.
  • Select “Set depart & arrive time.”
  • Use the scroll interface to set the times for departing and arriving
  • Done.

All done, thankfully this is nice and easy so you can make sure you’re either arriving at your event bang on time or with plenty of time to spare depending which type of person you are…

Conclusion

In conclusion this is fairly straight forward but not that intuitive, hence why you may be here.

A useful tool to track travel time between multiple destinations it is great for planning journeys and your time in advance, and it’s one of the reasons why users prefer Google Maps to other apps.

Thankfully with this being Google the app itself is very well made and adding features like these is incredibly helpful to those who are going to utilise it – this is especially true for those who travel a lot and use the app a lot.

Of course, you should make sure you don’t get distracted with apps while driving. It is safe to say that it’s one of the most common causes for car accidents and while it can be easily done it’s never worth the risk.

Make sure you do anything you need on your phone, and more specifically the Google Maps app, before you set off and avoid any risks while driving.
