It’s a Friday night before a massive week of Premier League action and you go on to the FPL app to make some last minute changes to your fantasy football team only to find that the app isn’t working.
This is a nightmare situation as you look to climb up the table in your private or public leagues so you look on the internet to find a solution and you find yourself here.
We’ve got some good news for you – we are well aware of the main causes of the FPL app or your Sun Dream Team app not working and also know the most common and quickest fixes.
Follow our solutions below and you should be back up and running in time to select your captain or play your wild card before this week’s deadline.
FPL app not working – the quick fix
The common issue that the FPL app faces is a loading issue. Often, you will go to open the app and you will be greeted with a blank screen which you assume means the app is just taking its time to load.
However, after waiting patiently you realise that nothing is loading so you try again and the same thing happens. The way to fix this is to completely restart the app, as opposed to just clicking off it and then back on again.
There are two ways you can do this:
- Close the app down completely. To do this on an iOS device you need to go on to the home screen and swipe up from the bottom of the screen. This will bring up a screen that shows all the apps on your phone that are actively open. The FPL app will be one of them and you need to swipe up on it to close it down. This will act as a reset.
- Delete the app and re-install it. To do this on an iOS device hold down on the FPL app icon on your home screen until a drop down menu appears. One of the options on this drop down menu will be ‘remove app’ which you need to select. This will wipe the FPL app from your phone, meaning you are now able to head to the app store, search for the FPL app and re-install it on to your phone.
We’d recommend trying option one first as it is quicker to do and will mean you don’t have to go through the faff of putting in all your login details again.
However, if it doesn’t work then definitely try option two as that will almost certainly fix the loading issue.
Unfortunately, there are other reasons why the FPL sometimes doesn’t work. Let’s take a look at them so you can get the app back up and running again.
App updates
The FPL app is an app that undergoes updates on a regular basis, particularly during game weeks. A lot of these updates usually go through without a hitch but can make the app slow and/or unresponsive.
During these instances, there’s not a lot you can do other than wait for the app to finish updating.
However, there instances where you may be stuck trying to run an old version of the app and you need to force through an update. To make sure this is never an issue you need to head over to the settings app on your iOS device and scroll down to ‘App Store’ and select it.
From here, you will need to make sure that ‘App updates’ is ticked to green underneath the ‘Automatic Downloads’ subheading.
You may have this ticked and wonder why the app isn’t updating for you. This will be because you don’t have enough storage space available.
To check this, go on to the settings tab again and click ‘General’ and then ‘iPhone storage’.
Connection issues
Another issue which will cause the FPL app to stop working is a lack of internet connection. There are two ways in which you can connect to the internet on a mobile device; Wi-Fi and mobile data.
To connect to Wi-Fi on an iOS device you need to go to the settings app and click the Wi-Fi tab. Make sure you have slid the bar across to green and then select one of your available networks to connect.
To connect to the FPL app via mobile data you will need to go back to the settings app again but this time click on ‘Mobile data’. Slide the bar to green and allow you phones to search for a 3G, 4G, or 5G connection.
If you are connected to the internet in one of these ways and the app isn’t working, then at least you can rule out connection issues.
Conclusion
The FPL app is one of the most popular apps in the UK and comfortably the most popular fantasy football app around with millions of players logging on each week to play the game. Most errors tend to be related to the internet connection on your device.
When it’s down it can be a real nuisance but we hope our tips above will get you back up and running quickly.
