Fitbit app not working on iPhone? Here’s why

Being one of the most popular and reliable fitness watches out there – you probably wouldn’t expect to have a problem with your Fitbit app not working on your iPhone. The good news is that it’s usually pretty easy to fix your Fitbit device.

In this article, we’re going to explore some of the most common fixes below for when your Fitbit app isn’t working on your iPhone. 

Fitbit app not working on iPhone – Here’s how to fix it

If your Fitbit app isn’t working, the main reason for this is likely because the app hasn’t been updated – this is the most common issue that Fitbit users have. Aside from this, it could be down to your internet connection, or potentially an issue with the Fitbit servers instead.

We know that it can be pretty frustrating when you’ve logged your workouts with your watch and you can’t see your progress on the Fitbit app. Or, when your Fitbit won’t sync with the app (though the solutions to this issue are a little different).

But if you find your Fitbit tracker not working even when you’ve updated to the latest version, there may be another reason why. Here’s what to do if you want to fix the problem.

Check there are no issues with the Fitbit server

While Fitbit in general in a pretty reliable brand, sometimes there are wider issues that will be affecting the Fitbit app.

If there is a wider issue, they’ll most likely post about it on their social media pages. So it’s a good idea to check their Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages and they will likely provide updates there, so we’d recommend that you check these first and wait to use the app until the issue is resolved.

But if you’ve checked their social media pages and they haven’t mentioned an issue at their end, it’s likely to be an issue at your side.

Check for updates 

The first thing to try when the Fitbit app isn’t working is to make sure that you’re running the app on the latest update. Any app is much more likely to have problems when on an out-of-date version.

On your iPhone, check for updates by visiting the App Store > tap your profile icon at the top of the screen and scroll to see pending updates. Tap ‘Update’ on the Fitbit app if it is showing as needing to be updated.  

We recommend that you allow automatic downloads to ensure that all of your apps are always up-to-date. You can do this by going to your Settings > App Store and tick ‘App Updates’ to on. 


Next, it’s also a good idea to make that your phone itself is running on the latest update, as this can also cause apps to play up. You can check this by going to your phone’s Settings. You’ll need to connect your iPhone to the charger and give it some time to update. 

Check that you’re connected to WiFi or mobile data

The next thing to check is that you’re connected to WiFi or mobile data. Most apps don’t work offline, so a common reason that you won’t be able to use them is that you’re not connected to the internet. 

If you’re seeing a message about no internet on the Fitbit app as shown below, this is likely to be the reason you’re not able to use the app or why it isn’t showing you your data. 

A common mistake people make is turning off their mobile data. To make sure that hasn’t happened go to Settings > Mobile Data and make sure that this is ticked as on. 

To check the WiFi on an iPhone, swipe up and make sure the WiFi is turned on (it will be highlighted blue), alternatively, go to your phone’s Settings > WiFi, and make sure this is turned on. Then check for any WiFi you can connect to.

Delete and re-install the Fitbit app

Our final recommendation is that you try is uninstalling the Fitbit app, then re-install it. Sometimes apps just need a refresh.

To delete the app, tap and hold down on the app until the below drop-down appears. Then hit delete. 


Re-install by searching for it on the App Store. Just make sure that you remember your login credentials so that your data isn’t lost. 


It can be a real inconvenience when your Fitbit app isn’t working, but generally, there’s an easy fix. In general, the Fitbit app and the devices themselves have great features and people don’t report too many problems.
