Why do I have 2 Android setup apps?

If you’re an Android user, you probably think that you’ve used all of the features your device has to offer. However, on some devices you may find that your phone has two Android configuration apps, and many users aren’t aware of this.

These apps aren’t actually going to have an effect on your device, but they can be annoying. Here’s why you may have two Android setup apps on your phone.

Why are there two different setup apps on my phone?

This is typically either an error, or a feature of your Android phone. Some Android devices have the ability to run duplicate versions of the same app at the same.

You can typically find this on dual SIM phones, with Samsung, Lenovo and Xiaomi being the most common devices to have this feature.

This can vary depending on which apps you need to use, and it includes the possibility of having two setup apps too.

However, it’s typically best used for other apps like WhatsApp – having two versions of WhatsApp for two different phone numbers makes a little more sense!

You essentially make a clone of the initial app that can be used in the same way, but with a different number.

Sometimes, your Android device may have a duplicate version of the setup app too – this can be a feature of a dual SIM device, or it could just be an error with your phone’s setup process. Either way, it’s easy enough to delete the secondary app.

How to delete the second setup app

Deleting an app is usually pretty easy, can be done from within your Google Play Store settings.

You simply go to Settings > Apps and Notifications. the, click on the ‘Uninstall’ button. This will go ahead with uninstalling the app from your Android phone.

However, if you’re using a dual app, the process can be a little different. You can instead go to;

  1. First, click through to the Settings app.
  2. Then, select Utilities.
  3. Next, tap the Parallel Apps option.
  4. Here, you should be able to disable the secondary app.

The process differs depending on whether the duplicate app is an error or actually a feature of your device.

If you want to keep the app but not have it on your display, you can consider hiding the app on your device instead. This means that it’ll stay as part of your installed apps, but you won’t have to scroll past it all the time.

Dual App Mode: What it is

If your phone does have a dual-app setting app on it, then it could be worth taking advantage of. You need to have a smartphone with parallel capabilities to run dual app mode.

As mentioned above, this is best used with messaging apps like WhatsApp and Line Messenger, as it allows you to have two separate accounts on the same device. This means that you could have a personal number and a work number on the same device.

What this does is essentially make an exact clone of the original app for you to use again. You can then log in and setup the app with a different profile – this also works well if you want to manage two different social media accounts on the same device too.

How do I setup an Android phone?

When you factory reset or start up a new Android phone, you will get a prompt to run a setup on your device.

You can start the process by inserting a SIM card into your phone, and then ensuring that you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network. Then, you can begin the setup process on your Android device.

If you need to, you can copy over the old apps from your previous device, even if you’ve been an iOS user previously. But, running through the setup process is pretty straightforward, and you’re unlikely to end up with two setup apps at the end of it.

In conclusion, you can often find duplicate apps on a smartphone, with a second setup application being a possibility too. This is usually a feature of dual SIM phones, which allow you to the chance to have two different apps based on two different phone numbers.

In some cases, you may actually want to activate two apps on your Android phone if you feel like you’ll use both. However, you can always delete the other app if you no longer want it on your device.
