Disney Plus app not working? Here’s how to fix that

Disney Plus is a popular streaming service, where you can watch movies and TV shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and more. It’s undoubtedly one of the best TV show apps released in the last few years. However, the Disney Plus app can stop working, which can end up being pretty frustrating. Here’s what to do if that happens.

Disney Plus app not working? – What to do

The good news is that generally, the same problems that occur for all apps will likely be the cause of your issue with Disney Plus.

Network connection

The most common issue that users come across is not actually a problem with the Disney Plus app – it’s actually an issue with the internet connection in your home. It’s worth checking your internet is working properly – you can do this by opening another app on your device.

If this doesn’t work, then you’ll want to go ahead and restart your Wi-Fi router to see if this fixes the issue. This is a common enough fix, but it does work in the majority of cases if the issue is caused by a weak connection.

Server Issues

Something else that’s worth doing is checking the Down Detector to see if it’s causing any issues with the server. There’s a chance that there might be an outage, which unfortunately means that there’s not much you can do about the issue. However, it should be resolved within a few hours (in most cases).

Ensure that the problem doesn’t lie in Disney Plus’s servers. You can find out whether this is the case by going on https://downdetector.co.uk/status/disney-plus/ to check Disney Plus’s recent outage reports. If there’s a high amount of reports, then there’s probably something wrong with the servers. These issues should be solved fairly quickly, so wait a day or so before trying the app again.

Restart Device

There is a chance that your Disney Plus app has stopped working because of your device – if you restart the device, it should clear the saved data on your mobile.

For Apple users:

The first thing you need to do is hold down the lock button on the side of your phone – then, at the top of your display a “Power off” slider should appear, which you can slide to the right to shut down your phone.

Then, after about 10 seconds, hold the lock button until the apple logo appears on the screen to start your phone again. When you hold the lock button down, the Apple logo should appear at the top of your screen. This will give you the ability to turn the phone off.

For Android users:

If you’re an Android user, you can turn your phone off with a similar method – hold the power button down on the right side of your phone. Then, a Restart button should pop up on your device.

Update Device

Something that you should be doing regularly wit pretty much any device is keeping it updated – this goes for laptop, tablet or mobile. If you don’t, this could be why Disney Plus has stopped working.

For Apple users:

Go into Settings then General and then into Software Update. You will only be able to update your iPhone if there’s an update available.

For Android users:

In a similar fashion, go into Settings > Software Update > Download and then tap Install – this will check your device for updates. If there’s one available, then you’ll be able to install it.

Update App

Your device needs to be updated, but so does your Disney Plus app. You can do this while you’re updating the device in your settings.

For Apple users:

Head into the app store and press on your profile picture, and scroll to the tab that says Purchased. This will have a long list of all the apps you’ve downloaded onto your device. Here, you should find the Disney Plus app to see if there’s a specific update option for the app.

For Android users:

Go into the Play Store and find your Profile Icon – hit manage apps, which will show a list of all the apps on your device.

If there’s an update available for your app to install, then you should be able to find it in the Manage Apps section of your settings.

Restart App

It can also be a good idea to restart the app completely, especially if you’re using an Apple device.

For Apple users:

Go to Settings > General> and then hit Background App Refresh.

This will show all of the apps running on your device, which you can choose to turn app refresh on or off.

When you’ve found Disney Plus, you can easily turn off the background activity on your device.

Once you’ve done this, go ahead and re-open the app.

For Android users:

Head to Settings and then Apps.

Once you’ve found the Disney Plus app, click on Force Stop to ensure that the app has completely stopped.

Once you’ve done this, you can re-open the app afterwards.

Reinstall App

As a last resort, it can be a good idea to uninstall the app before re-installing it again on your device. This will completely clear all data from the app.

For Apple users:

Hold down the Disney Plus app for a few seconds, and the Remove this app option should pop up, which will give you the chance to remove the app from your phone completely.

Contact Customer Support

If you’ve done all of this to no avail, then the next this you need to do is get in touch with Disney’s customer support. Go to https://help.disneyplus.com/csp and scroll down. There should be a chat option and a call option near the bottom of the page.

Click on one of them, which should prompt a form to pop-up. Describe your issue on the form, and they should connect you to a member of the support team.

Conclusion

There can be various different options why the Disney Plus app isn’t working on your device. If this is happening, then there’s a small chance it’s because Disney’s servers are down, which you’ll just need to hold out and wait for them to fix.

But in most cases, you can actually fix the issue pretty easily by resetting your internet connection and reinstalling the app on your phone. As a last resort, get in touch with Disney support to try and resolve the issue.
